Pirandello is an urban model that can predict the impact of a given decision (establishment of a shopping centre, construction of a new road artery, closing a city centre to traffic, etc.) on the shape of a city. Based on the principle that our choices of location are rational (a series of individual decisions contributing to a collective outcome), Pirandello models the establishment choices of individuals and companies. Using the data available (number of residents, origin/destination survey, existing transport infrastructure, etc.), the model reproduces the existing city and anticipates its future development. In this way, it can be used to test the impact of public development decisions on the main urban equilibriums. It is therefore a unique decision-making tool for public policy makers.
