In light of the challenges which humanity faces, the city often provides viable solutions. It fosters improved living conditions and provides access to clean water and education. Populations in disadvantaged nations often hope to find the things they need and lack in cities. But the city and the trend toward increased urbanization have come under closer scrutiny, especially in the West. What kind of cities do we want? For whom do we build cities? In addition to demographic pressure, other changes are occurring, including population aging and massive migration. Cities and urbanism must adapt to these changes.
