Mirco Barbero is the Team Leader of the Soil Team within the Land Use & Management Unit of the Directorate-General for the Environment at the European Commission. Since 2019, he has led this team with the goal of advancing Europe’s ambitions for soil health within the framework of the European Green Deal and key initiatives such as the EU Soil Mission.
He is one of the key figures in the development of the European Soil Strategy and the Soil Monitoring Law, adopted in 2025 by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, whose main objective is to achieve “healthy” soils by 2050.
